Mayor and Board of Aldermen Discuss Rental Registration and Inspection Proposal

At the City's Workshop on April 29, the Mayor and Aldermendiscussed a proposal by Alderwoman Kuzemchak to require registration and inspection of rental properties in the City of Frederick. Every improved property that does not qualify for a100% homestead property tax exemption, and contains a residential rental dwelling unit, would need to be registered. An inspection by the City's Code Enforcement Officer would then be required. The draft does not impose a fee for registration or inspection, but penalties for failure to comply with the registration, inspection, repair, and re-inspection requirementswould apply. The proposed ordinance would also require rental property owners who reside outside of Frederick County to retain a local agent to manage the property. Go to

County Readies Local National Conservation Initiative Program

Frederick County has been awarded $1.5 million in federal funds under the Housing and Economic Recovery Act (HERA) of 2008 in order to help stabilize neighborhoods affected by foreclosures.  FCAR, along with the municipalities of Frederick and Brunswick, is a partner in this program, which will provide downpayment and closing cost assistance to buyers of foreclosed homes in targeted areas.
